Jobs to separate
- Email / ESP. Capture addresses, send broadcasts and simple automations, deliver a lead magnet or newsletter.
- CRM. Track deals, pipeline stages, account history, tasks — often overbuilt for a one-person info product or newsletter.
- All-in-one funnel tools. May include light CRM-ish contact views plus pages and checkout (see funnel AIO).
Start with email when…
- Your primary asset is a newsletter or lead list (see creator email FAQ).
- You need welcome → nurture → offer, not a sales pipeline board (see automations).
- You are still under a tight monthly ceiling (see ≤$100 guide).
- Buying a CRM “for later” would add seats, fields, and complexity you will not use this quarter.
Consider CRM (or CRM features) when…
- You sell high-touch services with multi-step proposals and follow-ups across many leads.
- Multiple people need shared deal ownership (you are no longer truly solo).
- Compliance or reporting needs contact history beyond email opens/clicks.
systeme.io and similar AIO products may market contacts + funnels together; that is not the same as a full enterprise CRM. Research placeholder (checked 11 Sep 2026).
Honesty checks
- No “best CRM for solopreneurs” crowns, star ratings, or commission dollar amounts.
- Avoid overbuying: a paid CRM seat does not fix a missing offer or empty list.
